New Year Reset: Elevate Your Health with Expert Physio-Led Exercise

Looking to get into a new exercise routine in the New Year? There are countless benefits of exercise for both your physical and mental health. Learn about why exercise is so important and what services we offer here at Sydney Pelvic Clinic.

Happy New Year from the SPC team! The new year often becomes a time of reflection on the year that has passed, and goal setting for the year ahead. Some of the most common resolutions are to start exercising regularly, or get healthier. But let’s delve a bit deeper- why is exercise so important? And why does it make us feel so good?

Exercise boosts mental health and relieves stress

Here are some of the many benefits of exercise:

1. Boosts Mental Health and Helps Relieve Stress

Exercise is not only good for your body, it is also great for your mind. Evidence shows that physical activity can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins- which are the feel-good hormones that act as natural mood lifters.

2. Improves Cardiovascular Health

Regular exercise helps to improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure, improving circulation, and boosting heart function. The increase in circulation helps to deliver oxygen and nutrients to your muscle and tissues, making you feel more energised, alert, and less fatigued.

Studies have shown that regular physical activity can reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease by 27 percent! [SRC: https://www.escardio.org]

3. Builds Muscle Mass and Enhances Bone Density

As we age, our muscle mass naturally starts to decline. Exercise can help to counteract this to support your long-term health and physical function. Exercise also has important benefits in improving and maintaining bone density, which helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis as we age.

Moderate to high intensity weight-bearing aerobic exercise, high intensity progressive resistance training, and high impact exercise can increase bone mineral density by 1-4% per year [SRC: osteoporosis.foundation ]

4. Promotes Better Sleep

When you exercise regularly, your body becomes better at regulating its circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

5. Enhance Social Connections

Exercise provides an opportunity to build social connections and create a sense of community. The start of the year is a great time to try something new, and we have plenty of exercise services here at SPC to cater for everyone. Keep reading to find out what we offer.
