Sydney Pelvic Clinic Founder and Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Dr Angela James has given evidence at the Senate inquiry into women’s health in Adelaide. She appeared on behalf of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) as National Chair of its Women’s, Men’s and Pelvic Health Group.
Angela was joined by APA’s Katherine Utry and Cath Willis, along with fellow pelvic health physiotherapists Kat Grocke and Sarah Coshan. Together they took part in a constructive discussion with the committee, led by Senator Marielle Smith.
Our shared goal
The APA’s goal is for pelvic health physiotherapy to be part of pregnancy and postnatal care pathways. That means dedicated Medicare funding to support earlier access during pregnancy and after birth, and additional support for women recovering from significant birth injuries. Better access means less lasting impact from those injuries.
What we heard
The senators were very supportive of pelvic health physiotherapy. They were keen to understand how to grow the workforce and remove barriers to care.
What’s next
The hearing was an important step towards that goal. The focus now is turning these conversations into practical solutions that enable the right care, at the right time, for the right person.
We’ll keep you updated as this work progresses.
