This week, Dr Angela James joined an expert multidisciplinary panel for The Evolution of Colorectal Cancer Management GP education evening.
Alongside colorectal surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, Angela presented on the role of pelvic health physiotherapy in colorectal cancer survivorship—with a particular focus on bowel dysfunction following colorectal cancer treatment and the emerging evidence for pelvic floor rehabilitation, thanks to the important work of our colleague Dr Carol Chan PhD.
For some people, surviving cancer is only part of the story. Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) can include bowel urgency, frequency, incontinence and unpredictable bowel function, with a profound impact on confidence, work, exercise and quality of life.
A wonderful evening of multidisciplinary learning and an important reminder that cancer survivorship is not just about survival—it’s about getting back to living.
Thank you to Sydney Colorectal Clinic and the wider multidisciplinary team for the opportunity to collaborate and continue building stronger pathways for our patients.
