Sydney Pelvic Clinic is proud to introduce a new pre and postoperative physiotherapy program designed specifically for men undergoing prostatectomy. The Prepare, Recover, Rebuild pathway offers structured, expert-led support at every stage of the surgical journey, helping patients reduce the severity of post-surgical urinary incontinence and recover with greater confidence.
The program includes six individual physiotherapy sessions plus five small group exercise rehabilitation classes, each built around personalised assessment and real-time transperineal ultrasound feedback.
Prepare begins around a month before surgery, giving patients the chance to understand and correctly activate their pelvic floor muscles before their procedure. Two sessions focus on building awareness, optimising bladder and bowel habits, and preparing for what comes next.
Recover starts in the first weeks after catheter removal, when gentle, guided rehabilitation matters most. Sessions address early urinary leakage, bladder and bowel management, and safe movement during this sensitive healing period.
Rebuild shifts the focus to long-term strength and confidence. This stage supports scar tissue mobilisation, erectile function and penile rehabilitation, and a graded return to exercise, work and daily life—guided by weekly small group classes tailored to each patient’s goals, whether that’s golf, running or strength training.
What sets this program apart is its whole-person, movement-based approach. Rather than isolated pelvic floor exercises, patients learn how their pelvic floor, breathing and abdominal muscles work together—skills they can carry into everyday life and exercise with confidence.
Funding support is available. Patients with a GP-approved Chronic Disease Management plan may access Medicare-subsidised consultations, and many private health extras policies cover physiotherapy. Our clinics offer on-the-spot TYRO claiming for instant rebates.
If you or someone you know is preparing for prostatectomy, early physiotherapy support can make a meaningful difference to recovery.
